The Review Process in Mockup Tools

There are many mockup tools, which enable you to create mockups of website and mobile applications and even simulate these to get an idea of how this should look in the final application. One of the most important uses of mockup tools is to gather feedback from stakeholders and carry out basic user testing so that improvements can be made before the next design stage. It is therefore important that designers select mockup tools that enable for changes to be implemented quickly and for others to make comments where appropriate.

The mockup tool I use allows me to send an email with the URL to my prototype so that I can send this to stakeholders to click through. I can even give different access rights so that they can form discussions in the prototype if I would like. I can then export these discussions from my mockup tool, so that these can be used in a specification document – and so that I can keep track of the changes and comments that have been made by my clients.

I can also give editing rights to certain stakeholders if I would like, so that they can make changes to my mockup as they see appropriate. With my mockup tool I have lots of freedom to decide who has what access rights and whose feedback I want to take on board. I then combine this feedback into a final mockup that I get my stakeholders to sign off on. I find that using a mockup tool saves me lots of time sending emails back and forth, and I have a much better overview of the progress I make.
